If you're wondering where your files are from a long, long time ago, there's a chance they are not around anymore. We won't store all files forever and even though it takes a while, once they expire, they'll be scrubbed from the aisles. Unfortunately, we aren't able to restore expired boards.
"Oh yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it, or learn from it." – Rafiki
Shared boards expire after 90 days of inactivity. With inactivity, we mean a period that there were no changes made to the board. Shared boards are created when multiple people have viewing access to the board.
Collaborative boards expire after 360 days of inactivity. In Collaborative boards, there's a choice between granting both viewing and editing access. If you want to know more about sharing your boards, you can read this Help Center article.
Private boards will never expire because they are only saved locally. Please remember that they are not synced to the cloud and if you switch to another device or copy of the app, you won't be able to retrieve the files in private boards... unless you've got a Collect Pro subscription.
With Collect Pro, your boards never expire. Not only your Private boards, but Shared and Collaborative boards as well! There's more information about what a Pro subscription for Collect has to offer in this article.
Reset the expiry date
Obviously, if you are actively using the files in a particular board, but not making any changes, you still don't want it to expire. To keep it active, you can perform an expiry date reset through one of the following methods:
- Add or remove a file from the board
- Change the name or description of the board
This will reset the timer to 0 days, meaning that you have a fresh timer of 90 days for Shared boards and 360 days for Collaborative boards.
We won't delete your boards without notifying you. When a board is about to expire, 48 hours before to be exact, you'll get a notification and you can make the changes necessary to keep the board active.
Make sure that you do have push notifications for the app turned on if you want to receive them.
You can check this in the settings on your phone. Here's how to do so on iOS devices:
(Please note, when you install Collect for the first time on your iOS device, you'll be prompted to allow notifications from Collect. If you don't allow notifications at this step, then you won't be able to turn these on again from within the app).
On Android devices, you can go to the Notifications section of your phone's settings and check if the switch for Collect is turned on:
