Paper, Paper 2, and Paper 3 users who may or may not have created a Paper account before November 30, 2017, are considered to be Legacy users. Legacy users will have access to all previously purchased Paper tools and the Diagram, Cut, and Fill tools when signing into Paper 4.
If you used Paper, Paper 2, or Paper 3 without an account, please create a new Paper account and email email@example.com requesting that Legacy status be applied to your account.
Migrating your content from Paper 3 to Paper 4
If you've just updated to Paper 4 and were signed in to the previous version of Paper on your device, your content should have been restored automatically.
If this didn't happen, tap on the Settings icon (sliders) top right, then "Tips & Support", then "Sign In". Once you've signed in, tap on the Settings icon, then "Tips & Support", and then "Restore Content from Backups". On the next screen you will see the backups of your Paper 3 content that are available to you.
Paper Pro vs Legacy status
Paper Pro (previously Paper Patron) is a completely new program and was introduced in December 2016. It includes new features that were never previously available for purchase. If you'd like to have access to these features, you will need to subscribe.
Legacy users don't have to subscribe to have access to the tools you previously purchased, or the Diagram, Fill, or Cut tools.
Backup vs Sync
We retired our Paper 3 Backup service, which backed up your Paper content to our servers in favor of Sync, which makes use of your iCloud account to sync your Paper 4 content across all your devices.
It's still a good idea to regularly backup your devices with iTunes should anything happen to your devices.
