NB.: If you think you've received a phishing email, please read here.
N.B.: If you've reported your transfer email as spam with the aim to delete the transfer, we will not take the transfer offline. Instead you must follow the steps you can find here.
To keep things simple, WeTransfer has been designed to share files to and from any email address. The simplicity of the service enables spambots and spammers to abuse it to send out malicious spam.
You may have found that you have received an unexpected file transfer from somebody via WeTransfer. It could have been sent to you from a familiar email address of a known contact or even using (a variation of) your own email address.
This is why we’ve also got the option to verify your email address, so it can’t be used to make any transfers without the code only you receive.
Whether you’re expecting files to be shared with you or not, it’s always important to be aware of what you’re downloading and who the sender of a file is.
Ask yourself the following questions from this checklist:
1. Were you expecting files to be shared with you via WeTransfer?
2 Is the file name in the email referring to an invoice or payment? Or asking you to download a “proposal”? Or anything suspicious of the sort involving money?
3. Is it a very small file?
4. Is there a message with the transfer asking you to take an action on the file, such as making a payment? Or perhaps a strange URL?
If you’ve answered yes to all of the above, you’ve received spam. Do not download the files in the email transfer.
Instead you should:
1. Report the transfer as spam within the email body at the end of the page, so we can check it for legitimacy.
2. Send an email to the address of the sender and ask them if it was intended or not.
We’re always working on ways of improving the security of the service and curbing spammers from abusing our platform.
It is important you do not download the files in the transfer and instead, contact us by submitting a ticket and let us know the email address of the sender so we can look into it. This will also help us in our continued efforts to prevent spammers from misusing the platform.
Bear in mind, if you do not download the transfer, there is no harm done and you can simply delete the email from your inbox after reporting it to us.
For any questions, doubts or concerns you can submit a ticket to our Support team here.
